A necktie is comprised of different components, the outer fabric, or shell, the interlining, and the facing or tripping. The quality of the materials and construction determines if a tie will still hold on to its shape even without ironing and if it will drape properly.
The essence of a good necktie determines its well-cut lining. The interlining determines not only the shape of the tie, but how well it is to wear. So a necktie must go with its blend and weight to the shell fabric. Most interlining manufacturers use a marking system to identify the colored stripes, the weight, and content of their cloth. Men’s neckties are approximately 57 inches in length. Tall men usually have an approximate measurement of 60 to 62 inches long and for students; their ties are about 48 to 50 inches long. There are four main knots used in neckties: four-in-hand knot, pratt knot, half-windsor knot and Windsor knot, and other types include Prince Albert Knot and Atlantic Knot. All ties can be classified by color in the following categories: Multi Colored, Stripes, Paisly, Polka dots, Orange, Navy, Blue, Burgundy, Yellow and Green, Brown, Black and White. It is said that the colored neckties indicate the wearer’s membership in schools, club, military, and different organizations.
